Guide for Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Microsoft released the free app for windows users to check if their PC is powerful enough to run Windows 7 operating system. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor gives the user’s PC a pass/fail, for any compatibility issue to their hardware like scanner, printer, touchpad, etc., or to their programs whether they run fine after upgrading to Windows 7 or not. So, in simple ways, the Advisor examines your PC to check which software or hardware is compatible with Windows 7.

The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor available for download, requires Windows XP ( with .net framework 2.0 installed ), Vista, or release candidate versions of Windows 7 operating systems installed on your PC. If you have Intel-based Mac running Virtual Machines under virtualization, then you’ll also be able to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on it.

Minimum Requirements to Run Windows 7

There’re 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. So, the following are the minimum requirements to run Windows 7.

Windows 7 (32-bit)

  1. 1 Ghz Processor
  2. 1 GB Ram
  3. 16 GB free hard drive space
  4. A powerful DirectX 9 capable with WDDM 1.0 driver or higher graphics card to run the Windows Aero graphical user interface.

Windows 7 (64-bit)

  1. 1 Ghz Processor
  2. 2 GB Ram
  3. 20 GB free hard drive space
  4. A powerful DirectX 9 capable with WDDM 1.0 driver or higher graphics card to run the Windows Aero graphical user interface.

Note:  If you don’t know about your PC hardware, just run the Advisor to check whether it can run Windows 7 or cannot.

How to download and install Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?

  • Open the web link to download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor software. Click here
  • Click on the Download button to download the software.
  • Uncheck any checkbox selected and on “No thanks and continue”.
  • It’ll bring you to the download page. Just save the installation file to your PC.
  • Open the containing folder where you save the file and double-click on it to open for installation.
  • Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor requires .Net framework 2.0 to install it. If this isn’t installed on your PC, the Advisor will prompt you to install .Net framework 2.0. If .Net 2.9 framework is already installed skip the next 4 steps.
    1. Click Yes.
    2. Click Next.
    3. Select the checkbox (Agree to the license terms of .Net framework), and click next.
    4. Click finish.
  • Select the checkbox (Agree to the license terms of Windows & Upgrade Advisor), and click next.
  • Next, you’ll see a selected checkbox for running the tool after installation. If it is selected, after closing it will run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor automatically.

Run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

  • To run the installed Advisor application. Go, to the desktop and double-click on Windows 7 Upgrade advisor shortcut to run it.
  • You’ll see Start Check button. Just click on it. It will scan your PC hardware and software devices. This might take a few minutes to complete. when it completes, it will show you the details compatibility report that you can save or print.
  • If you want to save the report, click the Save Report button and save it to your PC in a selected folder.
